OLMC offers Coed Track for children in grades 4-8. This season begins in early April and finishes with the CYO city wide track meet on May 14th-19th. OLMC track participants usually practice two times per week and compete on Sunday afternoon CYO track meets.
Top 10 Reasons to sign up your kid for OLMC Track & Field 2011
1. It is a more social, less intense sport than the popular stick & ball sports. It is still competitive and fun to watch your kid run, jump, throw versus other Central Indiana parishes.
2. If you have a child already in another sport, Track & Field is the perfect secondary sport. Practices are twice a week and we are always flexible with the 2 sport kids. Meets are on Sunday afternoons and your child need only attend during the events he/she is competiting in. Parents, you can still get your errands done on Sunday and watch your kid compete.
3. It is for 4th through 8th graders and it is great way to get them out of the house.
4. 5 meets including the CYO Championships contested at the Olympic-quality IUPUI Track & Field stadium…..awesome setting for the biggest meet of the season.
5. When the weather gets nice, Sunday afternoons in the sun cannot be beat. Great way for your kids and you to meet fellow parishioners.
6. The season is fairly short ending by mid May. Twice a week practices will hopefully begin the week of March 7th. No practice during Spring Break.
7. Ribbons----the top 3 finishers gets ribbons…trust me, your kids will like the ribbons!
8. Speedboard--we will track your athlete's progress during the season and celebrate as they run faster, jump higher, jump or throw further. You do not have to place to win.
9. You still get the positive team aspect through the running relays and team point competition.
10. We will get your kids in shape and fitness is a very good thing. A tired kid is a happy parent.
